During a press-conference held on February 13, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Nematov commented on journalist`s qustion regarding President Shavkat Mirziyoyev`s address at Turkic Council summit, which was made in Russian language.
Nematov cited the UN sessions as an example, where speakers must choose one of the six available languages.
“Uzbekistan became a member of the Turkic Council for the first time, and it is not surprising that Mirziyoyev spoke in Russian. This does not contradict the regulations of the institution. However, the country pays special attention to the Uzbek language. Most organizations already conduct business correspondence in Uzbek. The Uzbek language is very beautiful. Perhaps in the future we will be able to hear addresses in Uzbek, ” Nematov said.
